Program Overview

Warrington Soccer Club Travel Program FAQs

When evaluating a soccer club and its travel program, it is common to have questions. Below is a list of the questions other parents have asked us in the past. If you have additional questions, we would be happy to help you, please email (travel@warringtonsoccerpa.org).

Q. How do you register for travel tryouts and is there a fee involved?
A. All players are asked to register for travel tryouts via our on-line registration process. The registration process will be open from February through the entire tryout process. There is a $20 non-refundable registration fee that includes evaluation by a paid independent evaluator, a travel tryout t-shirt, and club insurance.

Q. How are the travel teams selected?
A. Players will be evaluated based on how they perform using the following criteria: technical ability, tactical awareness, character, speed, attitude, decision making, athletic ability, work ethic, and the ability to play under limited time and space. The best combination of players will be selected to fill the first (“A”) team in each age group. Then players will be selected to the second (“B”) team in each age group according to ability. If player quality and quantity dictate, additional teams will be added/included in an age group. No player is guaranteed a position on the team from one year to the next and therefore, each player must continue to develop and earn a position on the team.

Q. How many tryouts do I need to attend?
A. All players are requested to make all scheduled tryouts. Attending all tryouts provides coaches more opportunity to evaluate your player. If your schedule causes a conflict with attendance at a tryout, please simply communicate with the Head Coach. Attendance at an upcoming practice may be a reasonable substitute.

Q. Does the club have any Premier Level teams?
A. The premier level at WSC has been designed to accommodate the teams and players that are chasing the game. Each premier team provides individual players with the best playing experience at the highest level with your child’s development as the most important ingredient. We are a club that helps develop each coach to train your child and their team at the highest level.

Q. How does the club handle Play Up Requests?
A. To be eligible to “play up” an age group, a player is required to do the following:

  • They will be required to try out for their own age group, as well as the age group that they wish to play‐up in.

  • For Travel Competitive teams, the player must rank in the top 1/3rd of potentially rostered players in the next age group.

    • For example, if a team is offering 12 roster spots, a player wishing to “play up” needs to be one of the top four players in the upper age group.

  • For FC Warrington teams the “top 1/3” ranking requirement does not apply. A player seeking to play up must only earn an available spot on the roster based on their ability and evaluation at the Premier team tryout.

  • All players wanting to “play up” will register for their correct pure age group and then contact Paul Centofanti, Warrington Soccer Club's Director of Coaching, at paul@warringtonsoccerpa.org for further tryout registration instructions.

  • The Director of Coaching will make all final decisions on play up requests.

Q. How will I be notified if I make the team?
A. Following tryouts, the head coach of the first team will extend an invitation to join the team. You can expect that notification within 72 hours after the last tryout has been completed. A registration e-mail will then be sent to you. You will then have 72 hours to respond to the offer, and as acceptance, make non-refundable deposit payment towards the Travel Team registration fee to secure your spot on the team.

NOTE: If payment is not received (or arrangements made for payment) within 72 hours from receipt of the the registration e-mail, the invitation to join the team may be rescinded and/or extended to another player, as per coaches discretion.

After the first team roster has been filled, the second team head coach will then have 72 hours to invite players to join the team with the parents then having 72 hours to respond. In total it takes as little as 2-3 days for both teams to be notified and as long as 2 weeks for both teams to be formed. If your child is not selected for a team, you will receive notification either via email or phone to inform you of the decision. If you have not heard from one of the coaches within the timeframe mentioned above, please contact our Travel Directors at travel@warringtonsoccerpa.org.
